Keeping on top of a regular exercise plan can be tough for some people, so you might be relieved to know that even an informal exercise plan may be beneficial to your health. Simply moving around more and taking more steps each day can dramatically improve your overall health—and walking up stairs is even more beneficial.
The results of study outline in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that lower levels of daily physical activity are positively associated with chronic diseases. And these diseases don’t take long to set in, either: even two weeks of lower activity could result in negative health effects.
Fortunately, increasing the number of steps that you take each day is easy. Try to take the stairs rather than the lift whenever possible, or even park your car further away than usual. You could also consider walking to work in the mornings, and look at using a pedometer to track the number of steps you take on a daily basis.
