While chiropractors are typically considered as practitioners who focus on the spine, chiropractic care may also be beneficial for treating issues associated in the arms and the legs. In fact, chiropractors are regularly consulted about problems associated with load-bearing joints such as the ankles and knees, and also those such as the shoulders, elbows, and wrists.

Chiropractors usually take a multi-pronged approach to treatment. Chiropractors first make an assessment of the patient’s posture to assess whether poor posture may be contributing to a patient’s ailment. A spine that is misaligned can result in a domino-effect of problems and issues that can present throughout the body.

Chiropractors will undertake an assessment of the spine to determine whether there is a specific area that is affected by poor posture. They will examine the spine for evidence of misalignments, also known as “vertebral subluxations”. These misalignments may be corrected using chiropractic manoeuvres known as adjustments.

Once these manipulations have been performed, the chiropractor will begin to treat the joint that is most affected. This joint may be adjusted or manipulated, or may be treated using exercises or even physiotherapy techniques. These exercises and techniques are specifically designed to suit the patient’s condition.
