If you’ve undergone back surgery that hasn’t worked, then you may have experienced what is known as ‘failed back surgery syndrome’. Unfortunately, this syndrome is quite common, with between ten and forty percent of back surgery patients finding that their surgery has failed. This syndrome is characterised by decreased function in the back, and by pain and stiffness in the affected area.

Over the past twenty years, back surgery has surged in popularity, with more than 122,000 back surgeries performed in the USA in 2001 alone. These figures represent a 220% increase over the preceding eleven years. While back surgery is increasingly common, it isn’t necessarily always the best approach to take to treat spinal pain. Before agreeing to undergo surgery, you should consult with a chiropractor and undergo a chiropractic assessment.

Even if you have undergone a back operation, you might still benefit from seeing a chiropractor. Even in cases of failed back surgery, your chiropractor may be able to provide some relief from any pain or stiffness you may be feeling. Chiropractic care may be beneficial in treating patients whose back surgery has failed. Chiropractic care uses physical manipulations and exercises rather than drugs and invasive processes to help treat patients. Chiropractors also focus on treating issues in their early stages before they become difficult-to-treat fully-fledged problems.

For more information about how your chiropractor might be able to help relieve your back pain, call your chiropractor to make an appointment.
