Most people, from office workers to students, spend hours each day in front of the computer. But while sitting seems natural enough, it’s easy to get it wrong. Having poor posture while sitting at your desk may result in neck problems, including discomfort and pain. While it’s not possible to simply step away from the computer, we can at least take some small steps to help improve our posture and protect our necks.
An excellent first step is to visit a chiropractor. Research has found that chiropractic care may be able to help reduce neck pain resulting from excessive computer use or poor posture. A recent study in the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association found that many people respond to chiropractic care after only an average of 5.7 visits to their chiropractor and after an average of fewer than three adjustments to the upper cervical area. Patients demonstrated relief after an average of just less than two weeks of treatment.
Your chiropractor will also prepare a treatment plan designed to examine and identify any underlying causes of your neck pain, and will work to relieve them, as well as prevent future pain. These approaches may involve ergonomic improvements or the relief of occupational or emotional stress, in addition to adjustments.
